CROSS COUNTRY Ski season is upon us and it’s time to wax up those skis! Sintered bases are like skin – they need to be “moisturized” from time to time to keep from drying out. Nothing is healthier for sintered bases than letting warm wax soak deep into the microscopic pores over a long period of time (hours or even days). That’s what a hotbox is for and most ski shops have one. But I don’t like having to make a special trip into downtown Portland each time I want to give my skis a hot wax job.
So … I built my own and here it is:
I purchased a 100’ roll of 4’ wide reflective attic insulation from www.insulation4less.com/ but you can get smaller quantities at places like Ace Hardware or Home Depot. I use it here as a kind of “space blanket”. Here is a video demonstration, followed by specs and assembly intructions …
Happy skiing!
